Cut Slip was one of the methods that Moche potters developed to create a fine white line on red slip. The potters simply cut through the red slip with a sharp object to reveal the white slip underneath. The cut slip lines thus provided fine detail to otherwise solid areas of color. The fine white lines on this vessel were created with this method.
