This twenty-key bala was purchased in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and is virtually identical to the instrument played by Wamian Kone in Taale Laafi Rosellini’s magisterial film, “Great Great Great Grandparents’ Music” (African Family Films, 1997).
