Object Name: Vertical mask
Cultural Group: Mumuye peoples (?)
Date: Late 19th-early 20th century or before
Materials Used: Wood, pigment
Credit line and Accession Number: Fowler Museum at UCLA. Anonymous Gift. X75.25
The head on this mask resembles more naturalistic styles of Mumuye figurative carving. There is no opening for vision, but the worn edges suggest it was held at the sides by the masquerader who stood inside the mask and perhaps looked sideways.
