Magdalene Odundo’s hand-built ceramic vessels build upon long-standing pottery traditions while exploring new techniques and ideas. The artist exploits the parallels between vessels and human bodies, achieving a distinctive and elegant resolution. Subtle details, such as bumps suggestive of vertebrae, invite the viewer to explore her vessels as anthropomorphic shapes. In most of her work, Odundo has examined the particular relationship between containers and the female body, both adorned and unadorned.
