South of No North: Gato Negro Ediciones

July 22–December 9, 2018

Building on the legacy of radical independent publishing in Mexico, Gato Negro Ediciones, led by activist designer León Muñoz Santini, creates and produces uniquely identifiable books across genres including art, photography, poetry, political discourse, and new editions of classic texts of resistance. With a tightly focused design program of limited Risograph editions, Gato Negro is becoming recognized as a voice at once singularly Mexican and internationally relevant within art-book publishing. Working from the center of the vibrant art and design scene in Mexico City, Gato Negro will present a dynamic installation of Risograph prints based on their books, including new work, and marking their first museum exhibition in Los Angeles.

South of No North is organized by the Fowler Museum at UCLA and curated by Sebastian Clough, Director of Exhibitions.
