Vaisakhi Community Day

April 13, 2024 | 1:30PM - 5:30PM

The Fowler Museum invites you to a free community celebration of the Sikh festival Vaisakhi—filled with art, storytelling, and music!

The program includes art-making stations for children, a curator-led tour of the exhibition I Will Meet You Yet Again: Contemporary Sikh Art, Sikh stories for children with Brave Lion Books and a special Vaisakhi performance.

Storyteller and advocate Valarie Kaur will share the Vaisakhi story of the Sant Sipahi, or Sage Warrior, highlighting the remarkable roles of women in Sikh history and culture. Kaur’s tale will be accompanied by a raag-based kirtan (musical performance) led by Jasvir Kaur Rababan MBEand Nirinjan Kaur Khalsa, and featuring the uplifting melodies of Panjabi trumpeter Sonny Singh. This immersive experience will seek to inspire and guide us through our day-to-day challenges.

2 pm | Storytelling in the galleries
3 pm | Exhibition tour in the galleries
4–5:30 pm | Sage Warrior Performance in the auditorium
