Join Brazilian-born artist Thaís Muniz for a workshop exploring the history of head wraps and turbans in Brazil and the broader Afro-Atlantic diaspora. Blending African and Brazilian turban styles, Muniz seeks to illustrate their cultural significance through tutorials, workshops, and documentaries.
Sunday at 12pm enjoy a 30-minute talk on the history of head wraps at KAOS Network. From 12:30-3pm drop by our table outside KAOS and watch Muniz demonstrate a range of styles with participants. Learn more at www.turbante-se.com.
This workshop is free. The artist will wrap volunteers on a first come, first served basis, ages 13 and up. All materials provided. An avid textile collector, Muniz will bring an array of wraps from Brazil as well as patterns in African Wax, Ankara, Kente and more.
