Studio Visit: Galia Linn

February 24, 2024 | 12:30PM - 2:00PM

Address provided upon RSVP

Join us off-site in South Los Angeles, at Blue Roof Studios (founded by Linn), for a studio visit and workshop focused on strength and vulnerability led by sculptor, painter, and site-responsive installation artist Galia Linn. Linn’s work is influenced by her early childhood in Israel, where she grew up surrounded by ancient archeological artifacts as well as contemporary remains of armed conflicts. This experience instilled in her an intimate connection to past and present civilizations, and a sensitivity to stories and relationships that shape one’s sense of place. Since 2014, Linn has produced an ongoing series of site-specific installations—each titled A Place— that evoke the basic human need for sanctuary and safety.

About the artist

Galia Linn has shown nationally and internationally, at venues including the Brand Library, Art Center, and Descanso Gardens in Los Angeles, and Galerie Lefebvre & Fils (Paris, France). Her site-responsive installations have been commissioned by the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla, 18th Street Art Center in Santa Monica, and LAXART in Los Angeles, among others. Her work is included in numerous private collections, and she is represented by Track 16 Gallery. A 20-year retrospective of her work, Vessels and Guardians, is currently on view  through April 14, 2024 at the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, CA.

Alongside her prolific studio practice, Linn builds support structures for artists and creatives. She is the founder of Blue Roof Studios (BRS), a multidisciplinary art hub in South Los Angeles. Informed by her own studio practice, BRS offers an environment that fosters creativity and community. In 2020, Linn founded Arts at Blue Roof, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Through studio residencies, mentorship, and public programs, AaBR builds long-term relationships with artists and audiences. AaBR’s flagship program is A Room of One’s Own artist residency, which provides women artists with financial resources and a studio space where, outside of their homes, women artists can explore materials, investigate ideas, and create.

A Global Destination for Art: Artists from all over the world flock to Los Angeles, drawn by the energy of ingenuity and the space for experimental expression. This in-person series visits international artists making work in the City of Angels.
