Story Time at the Fowler

Celebrate the International Day of Peace at the Fowler Museum! Join us for an interactive storytelling experience as we look, listen, and learn in our exhibition Intersections: World Arts, Local Lives. Families and children of all ages are invited to discover how kids around the world say “peace” in Can You Say Peace? (2006). After Story Time, travel around the globe with your very own passport in a self-guided gallery adventure!

The United Nations’ International Day of Peace is September 21, 2017.

Story Time is a short format, informal storytelling program facilitated by Fowler educators from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm on the first and third Friday of each month. This event is free, no reservation required. All materials will be provided. Meet in the Fowler’s Lobby.

Special Program: Uhengaparaoa Taonga Tuku Iho / Ancestral Gifts / Contemporary Māori Art

This gathering marks the opening of a collaborative exhibition that connects contemporary Māori textile artists from Whakatōhea with an ancestral kaitaka (cloak) in the Fowler Museum collection. Inspired by the legacy of Uhengaparaoa, a renowned pre-18th century Whakatōhea weaver whose knowledge of raranga (weaving) was shared across communities, the exhibition celebrates taonga tuku iho—ancestral treasures and knowledge passed down through generations. ...
