Special Event: KCRW’s Good Food Pie Contest

May 6, 2018 | 12:30PM - 5:00PM

For the ninth year in a row, home cooks and professionals alike will compete side-by-side to woo the judges. Good Food host Evan Kleiman will preside over the afternoon pie festivities which will include music by KCRW DJ Anne Litt, pie tasting, food trucks, kids’ activities, an artisan marketplace and more. Royce Quad
12–5pm  Join our scavenger hunt, shop and taste goods from over 20 vendors with sweet, savory and warm weather treats from the Pie Marketplace. Picnic on the grass, play lawn games, and swap out a book at the cookbook swap.
12-3:30pm  Create your very own non-edible, mess-free cherry and blueberry pies at art tables hosted by the Fowler Museum’s Education Department! UCLA student educators will be available to help children of all ages design fragrant pies using construction paper and washable, fruit-scented inks.
3:15pm  Line up at the KCRW info booths to get utensils
3:30pm  Pie tasting begins! Sample pie from some of the most creative bakers in Southern California

Fowler Museum
2pm  Inside the Fowler Museum, UCLA Latin American Institute’s Bonnie Taub and Fowler curators Matthew H. Robb and Patrick A. Polk discuss the origins of Mesoamerican ball games, looking at ancient vessels from the permanent collection. The curators will then link these insights to the current exhibition of recent photographs by Leopoldo Peña, who documents traditional ball games played by Oaxacan emigrés in California. Educators will also be ready to help families find inspiration at the Fowler, recommending must-see artworks for every age.

All events are free. Parking available in UCLA Lot 4, 398 Westwood Plaza, directly off Sunset Blvd | $12/day
