In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we are offering two weekends of festivities that celebrate Sikh art and culture in conjunction with our exhibition I Will Meet You Yet Again: Contemporary Sikh Art. 

Join us for a night of spoken word, art, performance, and expression inspired by Piram Pyala or “The Cup of Love.” Established by the non-profit Jakara Movement as an annual gathering that explores the feminine voice, Piram Pyala creates space to share stories, discuss issues, and open hearts.

The evening will begin with a talk by Nikky G.K. Singh, professor at Colby College, titled “Two Iconic Amritas: The Poet and The Painter.” Panjabi Poetic—a multi-generational and multi-religious group that includes students, artists, culture bearers, and community members—will convene in the Contemporary Sikh Art galleries for a poetry recitation. The celebration will conclude under the stars with a Sikh kirtan (devotional singing) performed by the renowned female voices of Gaavani musical group, which immerses audiences in an interactive and spiritually enriching journey.

4–5 pm “Two Iconic Amritas: The Poet and the Painter,” a talk by Nikky G.K. Singh (Colby College)
5:30–6:30 pm Piram Pyala with UCLA Jakara
6:30–7 pm Panjabi Poetica in the galleries: A recitation by Ish Amitoj Kaur, Harminder, Kaur,             and Jessi Kaur
7:15–8:15 pm Kirtan on the terrace: Sikh devotional music by Gaavani
