
Performance: A Mohiniyattam Dance by Vijayalakshmi
UCLA World Arts and Cultures/Dance lecturer Vijayalakshmi performs Mohiniyattam, a classical dance from the Indian state of Kerala. Among its most distinct aspects are its spiritual dimension and relationship to femininity and contemporary society. Choreographer Vijayalakshmi has performed widely, including at the Bolshoi Theatre, Lincoln Center, and the Edinburgh International Festival. She also co-authored the 2004 publication, Mohiniyattam. Vijayalakshmi is artistic director of the Center for Mohiniyattam, New Delhi and Founder/Director of the Mohiniyattam Institute, Los Angeles. Free and open to all.

Performance will take place in Kaufman Hall, Room 200 at 2pm
Entrance to Kaufman is located directly across from the entrance ramp to the Fowler Museum
The performance will be followed by a conversation between Vijayalakshmi and Anurima Banerji, Associate Professor in the UCLA Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. A closing reception will be held at the Fowler Museum.
