Join us for an evening of exploration of the historical threads that tie Islamic and Latino cultures, co-hosted with PBS SoCal. This special program will highlight images, food, and stories that illustrate the long-standing intersections between these two cultures.

Before the keynote lecture by Dr. Mariam Saada, you will be able to enjoy a guided tour of Sangre de Nopal/Blood of the Nopal: Tanya Aguiñiga & Porfirio Gutiérrez en Conversación/in Conversation, which recently opened at the Fowler.

Dr. Mariam Saada is an expert in Spanish Historical Linguistics. She specializes in Arabic and Islamic historical documents from the 16th-17th centuries of the Iberian Peninsula and the 17th-18th centuries of Latin America.

You can continue exploring Muslim American identity following the event by watching The Great American Muslim Roadtrip on Monday, August 5 – Wednesday, August 7 at 7pm on PBS SoCal Plus or on the PBS Passport App.
