Panel Discussion: After Wembley—Curating from Colonial Collections
The Fowler recently received a major grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to conduct collaborative interdisciplinary research on the Museum’s African art collection. The focus of this research is a gift of the Wellcome Trust to UCLA in 1964, which comprised some 30,000 objects. The Fowler’s research team is beginning to reconstruct histories of some of these artworks and unveil their findings on the materials, meanings, and functions of specific pieces. Join Associate Curator of African Arts Erica P. Jones, Mellon Curatorial Fellow Carlee Forbes, and Mellon Conservation Fellow Marci Burton as they discuss their discoveries. Free and open to all.
