Opening Party for Enduring Splendor: Jewelry of India’s Thar Desert
Following the co-curators’ talks in the Lenart Auditorium (6-7 pm), the celebration continues with Indian music and treats.
7–9 pm| Opening Party
Join us in celebrating with live music, art making and refreshments. Create your own body adornment by embossing a foil bangle or weaving a colorful bracelet using recycled metal materials.
You will also be able to experience the Indian art of mehndi, or hand painting, using temporary henna.
7:30–8:15 pm | Classical Indian music
Enjoy an intimate in-gallery concert with members of the UCLA Indian Music Ensemble, including sitar ensemble instructor Rahul Neuman and Miles Shrewsbery, a disciple of tabla director Abhiman Kaushal. The ensemble will perform a raga, the melodic frame of Hindustani classical music of Northern India—a tradition that has been evolving since the twelfth century CE.
RSVP by February 13 at fowleropening@arts.ucla.edu or 310-206-7001.
