Nancy Berliner, Wu Tung Curator of Chinese Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, discusses the Qianlong Emperor’s Garden for the 29th Sammy Yukuan Lee Lecture. Located within the Forbidden City, the eighteenth-century garden with its 26 buildings and pavilions is a testament to the artistry of the Qianlong Emperor who designed it. One of the world’s greatest art connoisseurs, the emperor, also amassed a collection of ancient masterpieces and commissioned works by the finest contemporary artists and artisans.
