Frieze VIP Curator-led Tour: Contemporary Sikh Art

February 28, 2024 | 9:00AM - 10:00AM

Note: special public hours Wednesday, February 28, 9 am—8 pm.

Kicking off the museum’s 60th anniversary, the Fowler spotlights religious diversity in Los Angeles, with I Will Meet You Yet Again: Contemporary Sikh Art. Enjoy coffee, pastries and a tour with exhibition co-curator Syona Puliady, Curator of Textiles of the Eastern Hemisphere at the Fowler.

The exhibition presents a vibrant selection of painting, posters, tapestries, and installations to embolden a fresh look at the history and vitality of the Sikh culture—one of the world’s largest and youngest religions, originating in India’s Panjab region. The myriad perspectives and materials on view are the work of Sikh and non-Sikh artists, and predominantly women. Their nuanced narratives find inspiration in holy scriptures, legacies of persecution and protest, and the expansive global presence of contemporary Sikh adherents.

Working with spiritual leaders, artists, and community organizers, the Fowler invites a connection between histories of art and living spiritual practices. These ongoing curatorial partnerships expand the way we understand and honor objects of belief.
