Fowler Outspoken Talk: Jenelle Porter on Uncommon Threads: The Emergence of Fiber Art
November 20, 2016 | 1:00PM - 3:00PM
Jenelle Porter, independent curator and a contributor to The Box Project exhibition catalog, situates the work of the exhibited artists within the fiber art movement, which emerged in the U.S. during the 1960s. Fiber artists, then, used pliable materials to make often large-scale sculpture and in doing so boldly confronted conventions and categories imposed by mainstream art and craft traditions.
