Fowler OutSpoken Conversation: Atta Kwami and Sylvester Ogbechie: Africa and Modernity

Western approaches to Africa’s visual culture have until recently separated “traditional” from “modern,” as if the two categories had no common ground and only the former was authentically African. Artist and 2010 Philip L. Ravenhill Fellow, Atta Kwami, is joined by UC Santa Barbara art history professor Sylvester Ogbechie for an exploration of modernity and African art as embodied in university and local art practices in West Africa, specifically Ghana.
