Fowler Out Loud: Dia de Los Muertos
Mariachi de UCLAtlán, with special guest Baile Folklórico, celebrates the Day of the Dead with songs about witches and spiders. Come listen to songs like “La Feria de Las Flores” (The Flower Fair), “La Llorona” (The Crying Woman), and “La Bruja” (The Witch), and dress up to join in the musical festivities.
Special pre-concert activity 4–7 pm:
Join guest artist Justin McInteer as he guides visitors in creating illustrated offerings to loved ones who have passed away. Use blooms of cempasuchil or marigold, the traditional flower for the Day of the Dead, to arrange patterns and designs on the grass surface of the Fowler amphitheater. Then, in place of a three-dimensional ofrenda or shrine, help draw one into existence on large communal sheets of paper. Presented in conjunction with the Big Draw LA.
