Fowler Out Loud: Austin Gatus

Jazz singer-songwriter-saxophonist Austin Gatus composes and performs original material influenced by a fusion of soul, jazz, and electronic music with his band of fellow UCLA students from the Herb Alpert School of Music.

Fowler Out Loud is an evening concert series that invites UCLA students from various disciplines to perform at the museum. Support for Fowler Out Loud comes from the UCLA Office of Residential Life.

This gathering marks the opening of a collaborative exhibition that connects contemporary Māori textile artists from Whakatōhea with an ancestral kaitaka (cloak) in the Fowler Museum collection. Inspired by the legacy of Uhengaparaoa, a renowned pre-18th century Whakatōhea weaver whose knowledge of raranga (weaving) was shared across communities, the exhibition celebrates taonga tuku iho—ancestral treasures and knowledge passed down through generations. ...
