Fowler Out Loud: Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

The UCLA Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra is modeled on the six-time Grammy award-winning professional orchestra of the same name founded and led by Professor Arturo O’Farrill. This orchestra features the brilliant work of Global Jazz Studies students performing various styles of Afro Latin Jazz. This performance will feature the work of Brazilian composer Hermeto Pascoal, considered by many to be a true living musical genius. The set will also draw on contemporary composer Emilio Solla and others across the Pan-Latino jazz world.
In 2020, orchestra members ingeniously assembled a Zoom concert experience—one of the only ensembles in the world to perform during that time. They were also featured alongside the UCLA Philharmonia, Tonality, and Dr. Cornel West in a landmark concert that featured Professor O’Farrill’s composition Four Questions.
Fowler Out Loud is an evening concert series that invites UCLA students from various disciplines to perform at the museum. Support for Fowler Out Loud comes from the UCLA Office of Residential Life.
