Join us for a special screening of the award-winning film, Mihin Sutta, Mihin Jibon (The Women Weavers of Assam, 98 minutes, Assamese with English subtitles), an observational and montage-based documentary focused on the labor and everyday lives of a group of women weavers working at the Tezpur District Mahila Samiti in India’s northeastern state of Assam. Aparna Sharma, the film’s director and UCLA professor, and Syona Puliady, co-curator of Visualizing Devotion: Jain Embroidered Shrine Hangings, will offer a brief introduction to ways of working with local artisans who produce embroidered and handloom-woven goods in India.
