CANCELED: First Thursdays: Bruin Love
Canceled due to weather. First Thursdays staff will still try to spread “Bruin Love” by giving out their signature First Thursday t-shirts and hopefully a warm beverage near the Wooden Center during the day – please feel free to stop by and grab a giveaway if you are near!
Come out and find the Fowler staff at the upcoming First Thursdays on Broxton Ave! Write a letter to your future self and celebrate the theme of Bruin Love. This activity is inspired by West African Yoruba divinities Oshun, the river goddess associated with love; and Eshu, divine messenger and mediator between humans and the gods.
We check in on friends and offer comfort to loved ones, but rarely do the same for ourselves. How would you offer words of love, encouragement, and optimism to your future self? Sit down with us and write it out! The letters will be sealed and placed in a box. Pick them up at the Fowler later this quarter as a reminder and act of self-care. Perhaps you can visit our exhibition, The House Was Too Small: Yoruba Sacred Arts from Africa and Beyond, and connect with Oshun and Eshu yourself.
