Film Screening: Zoot Suit (1981)

May 19, 2016 | 7:30AM - 5:30PM

Zoot Suit
Director: Luis Valdez, 1981, 103 minutes, Rated R
Zoot Suit is a play and film by esteemed Chicano director, producer, and writer Luis Valdez, a close friend of the late José Montoya. It is based on actual events from the 1940s: the Sleepy Lagoon murder trial and the Zoot Suit Riots. To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the film Zoot Suit, we present this special screening with an introduction by Luis Valdez followed by a question and answer session moderated by Chon Noreiga, Director of UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center. This program is offered in conjunction with the exhibition “José Montoya’s Abundant Harvest: Works on Paper/Works on Life” and is co-presented by UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center.
