Culture Fix: Sonali Gupta-agarwal on Living Traditions of Enduring Splendor
This gallery talk with Sonali Gupta-agarwal, Director of Public Programs at the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology and Lecturer, UCLA Anthropology, traces how ornaments are still a living part of both rural and urban societies in India, where what cannot be communicated through words is instead communicated through ornaments. The ideas of wealth, tradition, identity, religion and belongingness in a society rooted with caste and class divisions are better understood visually in a beautiful but very charged enduring splendor.
