CULTURE FIX: ERIKA DALYA MASSAQUOI ON ELECTROCULTURES AND DISGUISE

Erika Dalya Massaquoi, Consultant Curator of Disguise: Masks and Global African Art, discusses the work of multimedia artists from across the African diaspora. In this gallery talk, she explores how these artists refocus the dynamic potential of disguise by employing new media to stage epic encounters with animal avatars, hybrid authority figures, mythic characters, and the future. Massaquoi also discusses how her notion of a “sensorium,” or seat of sensation, activates spectators in different ways.
