Culture Fix: Curator Erica Jones on African-Print Fashion

Among the most popular of African-print cloth fashions, the ubiquitous “Angelina” design came to prominence in the Dashikis of the 1960s and 1970s. Associate Curator of African Arts Erica Jones traces the history of the cloth to the resurgence of the design today in worldwide trends.

This gathering marks the opening of a collaborative exhibition that connects contemporary Māori textile artists from Whakatōhea with an ancestral kaitaka (cloak) in the Fowler Museum collection.
