
Barriletes Workshop: Giant Kites of Guatemala (ages 18+)

Discover the colorful world of barriletes and their significance on Día de los Muertos in Guatemala during this exciting, two-hour, hands-on workshop. After learning about the Day of the Dead celebration in Guatemala participants will create their own kite to fly on their own.
Presented in collaboration with the UCLA Latin American Institute.

Traditional Guatemalan dance-dramas come to life in a vivid installation of eighty wood masks depicting animals, folk personae, and historical figures that are deeply rooted in Guatemalan religiosity and popular culture. With some examples dating back a century or more, the masks offer insights into how the dances articulate community identities
