Artist Talk: Anna Boyiazis

January 12, 2019 | 3:00PM - 4:00PM

Anna Boyiazis is an American documentary photographer based in Southern California and East Africa. Her areas of focus include human rights, public health, and women and girls’ issues. In her series Finding Freedom in the Water, (2016), Boyiazis documents an act of emancipation: Muslim women and girls in Zanzibar learning to swim for the very first time. In this talk, Boyiazis discusses these photographs and the story behind their creation, eliciting compassion and bringing our shared humanity to the fore.
